Where We Came From
Opera Quest Northwest traces its roots to the Vancouver Children’s Opera. For many years, this organization produced live, professional performances of child-friendly operas such as Hansel and Gretel, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and the Magic Flute.
Eventually, the focus shifted to a less-costly, more portable show that could reach many more children and schools. Opera the Great! was born. When the Vancouver Children’s Opera closed, several of its performers were invited to form a new nonprofit to carry on the show and the mission.
We are grateful to the late Loti Christensen, founder of Vancouver Children’s Opera, for igniting a love of music in thousands of children in our community. A professional opera singer, she was also deeply committed to music education and generously supported Opera Quest Northwest.
